Consideration of Aboriginal Lands Amendment Bill 2012 No. 27

Read into Hansard on Thursday 21st November 2013

MOTION

Consideration of Aboriginal Lands Amendment Bill 2012 No. 27

Mr FARRELL (Derwent – Leader of Government Business in the Legislative Council) – Mr President, I move –

That intervening business be deferred until after consideration of order of the day number 20.

[11.12 p.m.]
Mr VALENTINE (Hobart) – I am also conscious of the fact that it has been 12 months.  I know there is a report that honourable members have not had a chance to read and I, too, would not like to think that people go into a debate half informed.  My difficulty is that it has been with us for 12 months and there is a community out there waiting for an answer, and this is the last night of the parliamentary year.

What do you do in these circumstances, when the community is so expectant to have it dealt with?  It is really difficult for me, to be quite honest.

[11.13 p.m.]
Mr GAFFNEY (Mersey) – Mr President, I hear what the honourable member for Hobart is saying but the community wants it to be dealt with correctly.  I just picked the package up and threw it in my bag and I have not had a chance to look at it.  I cannot vote on it, or make any comment on it because I have not read the report.

Motion negatived.
